Awards for Heritage Preservation
Promoting and rewarding best practices in Sustainable Tourism

Sustainable Tourism and Cultural Heritage Preservation are urgent and important topics, engaging travel companies, governments, and non-profits and NGOs around the World.  All industries need to move toward greater sustainability, and the Travel & Tourism industry has been awakening to the need to preserve and protect its destinations, many of which are heritage-related. 

One way to recognize and learn about this burgeoning interest is Best Practices Awards.   In travel, some of the most recognized are:  WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, World Travel Mart's Responsible Travel Awards, and PATA’s Gold Awards. 

Tourism for Tomorrow Awards - WTTC

The WTTC – World Travel and Tourism Council, www.wttc.org, which includes the world's foremost 100 leading travel companies – conducts its annual “Tourism for Tomorrow Awards” in four categories:  Destination Stewardship Award, Community Benefit Award, Global Tourism Business Award, and Conservation Award.  Over 20 international judges rate over 170 entries to select four winners.

RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL AWARDS - WTM

The WTM - World Travel Mart, The annual travel and tourism gathering in London presents "Responsible Travel Awards". the 2011 winner in the "Best Contribution for Conserving Cultural Heritage is Agri Torism Development Corp., India. www.responsibletourismawards.com

GOLD AWARDS - PATA

PATA, the Pacific Asia Travel Association, announces its annual Gold Awards winners at its annual meeting in April.  See http://www.pata.org/pata-gold-awards. The Gold Awards are presented to travel industry organisations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to successfully develop and promote travel and tourism in Asia Pacific.

The 2012 PATA Annual Meeting will take place in Putrajaya, Malaysia, April 20-23, 2012. These awards are presented in six categories, including "Heritage & Culture"-the 2011 Heritage award went to Gale Face Hotel, Sri Lanka, the story of the Lengendary Gale Face Hotel - and - the 2011 Culture award went to the "World Thai martial arts and Wai Khru Muay Thai ceremony" by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
