R. Tauck & Partners Sponsors WTTC Destination Stewardship Award

December 14, 2011 – R. Tauck & Partners will sponsor the World Travel and Tourism Council’s 2012 Tourism for Tomorrow Destination Stewardship Award. The Award recognizes entities which have progressively embraced Sustainability and multi-stakeholder planning in their successful long-term strategy. The Tourism for Tomorrow Awards will be presented at the 12th World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit in Tokyo in April 2012.

The Destination Stewardship Award goes to a destination – country, region, state or town - which has successfully and progressively embraced the issue of Destination Management as one of growing intensity and significance. Recipients interweave social, cultural, environmental and economic issues into the sustainable management of a destination and seek multi-stakeholder private, public and philanthropic engagement in their long term planning. Former winners include Alpine Pearls of Europe, The Botswana Tourism Board and Grupo PUNTACANA.

Travel industry veteran, member of the WTTC and former finalist judge, Robin Tauck believes Destination Stewardship to be one of the most exciting opportunities for the travel and tourism industry. "As treasured destinations welcome growing numbers of tourists from so many countries, planning the management and economic prosperity derived from cultural and heritage assets becomes very important. This award recognizes major destinations whose efforts are spurring best practices and tangible economic and societal results. I applaud the WTTC for engaging travel leaders to sponsor special awards and am proud to be stewarding this category, to benefit treasured sites, their local communities, and future generations of travelers."

R. Tauck & Partners supports a progressive and multi-generational, multi-stakeholder view of partnerships in sustainable tourism by engaging with key entities in the protection and enhancement of iconic and vulnerable World Heritage sites, destinations and communities.
