RANDY DURBAND, Senior Partner - Robin Tauck & Partners

Randy Durband is a Senior Partner at Robin Tauck & Partners (Connecticut/California, USA) supporting Sustainable Travel worldwide and global public/private partnerships. Not only does Randy bring a personal interest in and passion for environmental protection and socio-economic development to his role with Robin Tauck & Partners, he also brings a deep knowledge of the travel and tourism industry.

During his 28-year career in travel and tourism, Randy has visited all seven continents and over 65 countries. He has personally witnessed the benefits global travel can bring to local communities, but he has also seen how this same travel, when poorly managed, can degrade the cultural or natural heritage site being visited and have negative impacts on the local community. His mission at Robin Tauck & Partners is to bring his travel industry knowledge to developing tourist destinations around the world to help them manage tourism in a sustainable way—by promoting social justice, environmental protection, and cultural heritage preservation through tourism.

During his two-decade career at Tauck World Discovery, Randy played a variety of roles for the award-winning, industry-leading company. After working as a tour director in the USA, Canada, and Europe, he became the manager of Tauck’s 250 tour directors, then Vice President in the mid-1990s. As a Vice President, he led many core operational departments—Yield Management, Guest Relations, eBusiness, Strategic Planning, Market and Product Development, and Brand Management. In recognition of his strategic-thinking abilities, and his knack for projecting into the future of the tourism industry, he was selected to serve next to Robin Tauck as part of a high-level, three-person Executive Committee.

Later, First Choice Holidays (now TUI Travel) hired Randy to serve as President of both INTRAV, the luxury tour operator, and Clipper Cruise Lines, which owned and operated small expedition vessels such as the Clipper Odyssey. In 2007, he moved to the helm of Travcoa, a leader in premium luxury travel worldwide. In these presidential positions, Randy led the strategic direction of each company and was engaged in, and a big supporter of, TUI Travel’s Sustainable Development work.

Randy currently serves on the boards of Sustainable Travel International (STI) and Global Exchange, and serves on important committees and working groups for ICOMOS, and UNESCO’s Sustainable Tourism Program.
